Legacy's Edge: A Chronicle of Power and Purpose
Unleash Your Inner Hero. Or Be Consumed.
You were just an ordinary person living an ordinary life. Until the day destiny, or perhaps a cosmic accident, touched you. Now, you possess extraordinary abilities, thrust into a world grappling with new threats and evolving societal norms. Legacy's Edge is a solo roleplaying game about navigating this new reality, mastering your nascent powers, and deciding what kind of hero you will truly become.
The Core Question: "Can I wield this power responsibly and shape the world for the better, or will I be consumed by its demands and the chaos around me?"
Inspired by modern superhero epics like Invincible and My Hero Academia, this game is a journey of personal growth, moral dilemmas, and impactful action in a vibrant, complex urban fantasy setting.
What Awaits You:
- Discover and Master Your Powers: Start with a basic ability and grow into a formidable force. Will your energy blasts be precise tools or destructive forces? Will your telepathy connect or control?
- Confront Escalating Threats: From street-level crime to world-ending villain schemes, the challenges will test your limits. How will the public react to your interventions? Will authorities see you as a savior or a menace?
- Navigate a Double Life: Maintain your secret identity, foster complex relationships, and balance the demands of your mundane life with your heroic duties. Personal crises can hit just as hard as supervillains.
- Face the Darkness Within: The path of heroism is fraught with peril. Track your Stress (mental toll) and Corruption (moral compromise). Every choice has consequences, and every power surge risks pushing you closer to the edge.
- Dynamic Cycles of Play: Engage in structured Cycles, moving through phases of declaring your Heroic Ambition, undertaking dangerous Missions, facing unexpected Consequences, and spending vital Downtime to recover, train, or manage your personal life.
Key Mechanics:
- Oracle (1d6): For quick yes/no questions and simple resolutions.
- Challenge Rolls (2d6): For risky actions, where success might come with a Cost, or failure might bring a Complication.
- Heroic Resources: Manage your Power Points (to fuel abilities and rerolls), Stress, Corruption, and public Reputation.
- Global Clocks: Track escalating Threat Levels, active Villain Schemes, and looming Personal Crises.
Legacy's Edge is designed for endless replayability, allowing you to explore countless heroic sagas. Each choice, each success, and each setback carves your unique legacy. Will you save the world, fall from grace, or burn out trying?
What You Need to Play:
- A six-sided die (1d6)
- A pen or pencil
- A separate notebook for your journal and narrative
- A printed copy of the included Character Sheet

It feels like I am missing something with this game. I'm going to throw a bunch of observations and questions into the comments. I hope you do not mind.
I see ways for a PC to get negative effects applied to rolls: Stress, Threat Clock levels, and minor injuries. Are there ways to get bonuses, other than PP usage during training powers/getting control of your powers, Allies, and having 3+ Corruption?
Other than narrative flavor, is there any benefit to having powers in the game? It seems more beneficial to use Power Points for rerolling dice rather than investing them in Powers, unless you're trying to achieve one of the victory condition. There is also mention of spending Power Points to activate powerful abilities. I don't see any details about that, outside of the "Excess Power Points" section that comes into play after achieving one of the victory conditions.
Is there a way to reduce the Threat Clock, other than with a Network Contact Ally? There are a lot of ways for it to go up.
You're encouraged to think about your approach during missions and other challenges. That's generally good practice, however I do not see a difference beyond narrative flavor between sneaking though a villain's base and plowing through walls Juggernaut style. You're background/skills/power don't come into play. Further, there is no mechanical difference between an underachieving high school student, a veteran police detective, or world renowned wheelchair bound scientist. I'm wondering if that is intentional or if I am overlooking something.
Something I like about Legacy's Edge, other that it being a solo superhero game (wooo!), is the Global Clock System. Having the clocks setup to trigger plot events is a really neat idea.
You've definitely made some good points here, which is why I love Itch.io. I can revise and post updates. I'm going to go through the game to address some of these. I'll post a reply to your comment when i post the fixes. Then you can download the revision and see if that helps with some of the issues your experiencing.
I've made some changes. The full list of changes are in a Dev post for v5. Let me know if these address your issues/concerns with gameplay. And, by all means, feel free to comment more if other issues arise. Thank you!
Hi, I have a question. Is there a mechanic to remove corruption? I didn't find anything, maybe I overlooked it. But I did see the effect of the corruption lasts until it's lowered, so there's gotta be something. Thanks in advance
As of right now, there isn't a easy to access mechanic to reduce corruption. It was meant to be a significant, challenging event that you create a scene and cost stress to use. Like a scene of self-sacrifice, acts of atonement, or deliberate reflection. You raise a good point and I'll try to get an update to the text to make it more clear.
I've updated the file with changes to make the corruption mechanic more clear. You should be able to download the new version.
